About

David Reynolds has spent more than two decades shaping the sound of major studio films, hit television series, and national advertising campaigns. His music has been heard by millions of people in multiplexes, on streaming platforms, and in living rooms around the world.

Before relocating to Los Angeles, David honed his craft in the Minneapolis advertising world, writing music for McDonald's, Target, Ford, Arby's, and General Mills, and scoring two independent feature films. It was that body of work that earned him an invitation to join USC's prestigious Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television program, one of only 12 composers accepted from around the world.

At USC, David studied under legendary composer Elmer Bernstein. Upon graduating, Bernstein hired him personally, bringing David onto his team and launching his Hollywood career under one of the industry's most celebrated composers. He went on to assist Christopher Young across 18 feature films, transcribing sketches, supervising electronic recording sessions, coordinating orchestral recordings, and occasionally conducting, gaining an intimate understanding of how major studio scores are built from the inside out.

While assisting Young, David was simultaneously scoring independent films of his own, building his compositional voice in parallel with his studio education. Among them was George B., which competed at the Sundance Film Festival. After his time with Young, he continued as an independent composer for a number of years, earning primary composer credits on studio features for Sony Pictures, award-winning indie films, and a number of documentaries and shorts.

Alongside his work as a primary composer, David began contributing additional music to some of Hollywood's biggest releases, scoring alongside Danny Elfman on Wanted, Trevor Rabin on The Guardian, Get Smart, G-Force, and The Sorcerer's Apprentice, and Mike Andrews on The Bubble, Yes Day, Daddy's Home 2, and Unaccompanied Minors. In television, he contributed additional music alongside composer Kenneth Burgomaster for Disney Channel series including Hannah Montana, A.N.T. Farm, Dog with a Blog, Stuck in the Middle, and The Villains of Valley View.

Beyond scoring for picture, David was commissioned by Tile to create the signature sound design and musical cues for their popular tracking products, melodies now heard by millions of users worldwide. His concert and trailer music work includes a commissioned piece for the renowned Debussy Trio, and two trailer music albums produced for BMG Selectracks. His track Requiem of the Gods was featured in the international trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness, a Golden Trailer Award nominee.

David also gives back to the craft through education. He co-created Scoring for Filmmakers, a lecture series with director Gregory Ruzzin at Loyola Marymount University, designed to help emerging filmmakers understand the power of music in storytelling and the creative potential of working with composers.

He lives in Los Angeles with his wife Pam, where he continues to score for film and television while teaching the next generation of filmmakers as a guest lecturer at LMU.
