David Reynolds has written music for an impressive group of distinguished filmmakers including Jerry Bruckheimer, Marc Platt, Timur Beckmambetov, Neil Moritz, Peter Segal, Stan Winston, and Andrew Davis.
Known for the quality of his work along with his ability to effectively collaborate with both filmmakers and other artists, David Reynolds is a very versatile composer. According to Reynolds, "My number one job is to help filmmakers create music that supports and enhances their stories and characters on every level."
Reynolds talent and his 17 years of experience has put him in demand on a wide variety of projects ranging from uber-budget studio films, to micro-bugets indies. He has written additional music for A-list composers Danny Elfman and Trevor Rabin on various high-profile blockbusters including THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE, G-FORCE, WANTED and GET SMART, as well as scoring more than 25 independent and lower budget projects, including HBO's “Creature Features” series, produced by the late Stan Winston, Sony's CRUEL INTENTIONS 3, produced by Neil Moritz, Sundance Film Festival dramatic competition feature GEORGE B, Stony Brook Film Festival Grand Prize winner ALMOST SALINAS, and Hawaii International Film Festival best short film NAGPAPANGGAP.
Born and raised in Minneapolis, Reynolds began composing music at the age of 9. After earning a BA in music composition from St. Olaf College, Reynolds began his career in Minneapolis, playing in a band and writing music for commercials and corporate clients. Soon, Reynolds partnered with ad music guru Bob Jenkins and formed Across The Tracks Music, a premiere Minneapolis ad and commercial music house who's clients included McDonalds, Burger King, Ford Trucks, Target Stores, Arby's, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Polaris, Lee Jeans, Wells Fargo, General Mills, Union Pacific, and Northwest Airlines.
While in Minneapolis, Reynolds got his first opportunity to score a feature-length film. And then another. It quickly became clear that to pursue film music, Reynolds needed to move to Los Angeles. He applied and was accepted to USC's exclusive Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television Program, one of only 12 composers from around the world accepted to the program that year.
At USC, Reynolds won the Harry Warren Endowed Scholarship for Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television. Fresh out of USC, film music legend and Academy Award winner Elmer Bernstein recognized Reynolds as a promising young talent and hired him, giving Reynolds his first Hollywood job. Absorbing everything he could, Reynolds went on to work for two other film music greats, jazz icon Mark Isham and Christopher Young, all the while scoring independent projects on his own.
One of three composers showcased in a Music From The Movies feature article, Reynolds is dubbed a “Hidden Treasure” that “…has been writing impressive scores...” According to scribe Mikael Carlsson, "David Reynolds is one composer who I hope would be able to continue to write really good thematic scores in a high budget blockbuster film. In fact, I am convinced he would do an absolutely stunning job." (Click here to read the full article)
